Parkour is the art of free-running and finding ways over, under and around obstacles without stopping. It is usually done in towns and cities but some free-runners are discovering that woods are also great places to do parkour.
Getting startedYou can practice the same movements and techniques when practicing parkour in the woods as in an urban environment. However you must be careful with your footing as the natural world is more irregular than the urban jungle.
When jumping between fallen logs or branches, do so at a low level to avoid injuring yourself if you fall.
When choosing a wood to train in look for low or fallen branches, stumps, mounds, or any other interesting obstacles you can build your training around.
Basic movesThe Woodland Trust, CBBC Live and Deadly and Team Kinetix spent a day learning how to do parkour in the woods. Watch the video below for some basic moves to get started with.
Please remember that everyone was a beginner once so start with easier moves and stay at low level.
Search for parkour and free running on YouTube to find lots of videos.
