Walking for Health aims to get more people walking in their own communities to improve their health and wellbeing.
Walking has been described as ‘almost perfect exercise’ because it requires no equipment or expense. It is an easy way for people to become more active and can be done almost anywhere.
Many people walk in urban areas. While walking anywhere is great for improving health, we believe that walking in the woods offers many extra benefits.
Getting away from the hustle and bustle of busy towns and in to natural spaces has a positive effect on wellbeing. Many people who walk in the woods report feeling much less stressed.
A VisitWoods partnership officer is currently working alongside Walking for Health to help encourage walk leaders to arrange more woodland walks and to help more people discover the benefits of walking in woods.
VisitWoods and Walking for Health will be launching our Year of Woodland Walks in May 2011. This will feature new led woodland walks and will allow people to search for their nearest woodland health walk.
