Forestry Commission

The Forestry Commission is the government department responsible for forestry matters.

They own or manage over 827,000 hectares of woods and forest and are the single largest provider of outdoor recreation opportunities making them an obvious partner for VisitWoods.

The Forestry Commission also provides grant to private woodland owners under its 'Woodland Welcome' scheme, to support the wider provision of access in woods and forests.

The Forestry Commission supports VisitWoods in a number of ways:

      • They provide funding
      • They supply about 75% of the woodland data
      • They support us by promoting VisitWoods
      • Their staff help us to evaluate our project and provide lots of other support too.

We share many similar aims with The Forestry Commission they promote visits to  woods and forests and find ways to help improve people’s health and wellbeing. By working together, we can inspire more people to see woods as  great destinations.
