Forestry Commission Scotland

The Forestry Commission Scotland serves as the forestry directorate of the Scottish Government. They own or manage, the national forest estate - over 660k hectares (35% of Scotland’s woodlands).

As well as delivering the Scottish Forestry Strategy, FCS contribute to many aspects of wider Scottish Government policy such as energy, environment and climate change, biodiversity, healthy living, rural transport, tourism and education.

Forest Enterprise Scotland (the operating arm of FCS) is the largest provider of outdoor recreation in Scotland, making them an obvious partner for VisitWoods.

The Forestry Commission Scotland support VisitWoods in a number of ways:

  • They provide funding
  • They supply woodland data
  • They support us by promoting VisitWoods
  • Their staff help us to evaluate our project and provide lots of other support too.

We share many similar aims with the Forestry Commission Scotland. They promote visits to woods and forests and find ways to help improve people’s health and wellbeing. By working together, we can inspire more people to see woods as great destinations.
