Action for Children supports and speaks out for the most vulnerable and neglected children and young people in the UK.
Visiting woodland is particularly beneficial for children and young people; it has been shown to increase self esteem and build confidence, as well as improving physical health and emotional wellbeing.
Exploring, playing and learning outdoors has huge benefits for everyone, but for those young people who have never even been to a wood before, it can be life changing. For families too, woodlands provide a free, natural space for disabled and non-disabled children to engage in unstructured play, giving them independence that can help them throughout their lives.
Action for Children aims to help Visit Woods to reach children in care, low income families and the families of children with disabilities in particular, who are less likely to be spending time together in Woodlands.
“We firmly believe in the importance of play, seeing it as a significant contributor to children and young people’s emotional health and wellbeing."Tom McLaren-Webb, Head of Campaigns, Action for Children
