Thanks and well done to everyone who entered.
The standard of entries was exceptionally high, so our judging panel had a tough job!
And the winners are......
The winner in the KS2 category is
Olivia Eggington
Ysgol Caer Drewyn, Corwen
As a young tree I was fed and looked after by the River Dee.
I used to watch the trains go by and the animals flock to market.
Now they are both gone.
I still watch the fishermen and the sheep still graze by my roots.
Times are quieter now but the river still gently flows by and feeds me.
Judges comments
A tree on the banks of the river Dee reflects on a bygone era, evoking it beautifully, the nurturing river nurturing the tree from sapling to maturity.
"Beautiful poise to this entry. A flawless jewel, full of grace." William Fiennes
The winner in the KS3 category is
Lauren Jones
Failsworth School, Manchester
Autumn fell and my golden leaves shivered to the cold ground. I was bare. Leaves rustled as children ran around in the cool breeze, playing in a sea of shimmering foliage. A young girl came and sat next to me, crying. "Tree, no-one will play with me. Will you be my friend?" Now she sits next to me every day.
Judges comments
Succinctly told story of a child who seeks solace in the company of a tree which becomes her constant friend. This captures the enduring relationship between a child and their special tree.
" Creative, descriptive language, crafting a sense of place and a defining moment in a young life." William Fiennes
