Help plant a tree in County Durham for the Queen's Jubilee

County Durham has led the way in our Jubilee Woods project. We’re aiming to plant 6 million trees across the UK in celebration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee and as part of this ambitious plan over 250,000 trees will be planted within County Durham. Working in close partnership with Durham County Council and County Durham Environmental Trust, and with the help of schools and communities, ten fantastic new woods will be created covering 331 acres.

We’re also creating 2km of new hedgerows, distributing over 200 free tree packs to Durham schools and community groups, hosting around 60 days of events for local school children to get out and learn about their local environment and involving hundreds of volunteers. Planting has started in earnest and we’ve already come a long way but there’s still more to do…

CAN YOU HELP?

The total cost to achieve this ambitious project is £1.2 million. We’ve almost reached our target but need to raise £60,000 from this public appeal to ensure all the trees are planted. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters and local people we’ve raised almost £26,000 towards this target, meaning we only need a further £34,000 to realise all our plans – we hope you can help.

For every £1 you donate the Woodland Trust will receive £20 from our generous funding partners. That means you will be able to transform your community and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

A great day out!

As well as helping us financially, it’s not too late to come along to one of our tree planting events where you can plant trees with like-minded people. Hundreds of local people and school children have helped so far, planting trees that will transform the landscape in to thriving woodland, homes for wildlife and wonderful places for people to enjoy.

Tree planting events start again in Autumn 2013 so keep visiting our website to see what’s happening near you - it’s a great day out for everyone and a real way of making a difference so we’d love you, and your family and friends, to join us.
